Oakland Raider running back LaMont Jordan remained sidelined because of a turf-toe injury and has been ruled out of Sunday’s game against Denver, Coach Norv Turner said Thursday.

Jordan, who is the first Oakland running back since 2000 to rush for more than 1,000 yards, injured himself last week early in the first half of the Raiders’ 9-7 loss to Cleveland. Jordan remained in the game, rushing for a career-best 132 yards in the defeat.

An MRI exam after the game revealed the injury, and Jordan had his foot put in a protective walking boot. He did not practice at all this week in hopes that the rest would enable him to play Saturday in Denver.

Turner shot those hopes down Thursday with the news that Jordan would not play. Instead, the Raiders will rely on fullback Zack Crockett and seldom-used Justin Fargas.

New York Jet receiver Wayne Chrebet said his career was over, one month after sustaining a season-ending concussion.

Chrebet, 32, spent 11 seasons with his hometown team after signing as an undrafted free agent out of Hofstra but was plagued with head injuries the last few seasons. Though he was undersized at 5 feet 10, he quickly became a clutch possession receiver, working his way up the team record charts.

He ends his career with 580 receptions, second to Don Maynard’s 627 on the team list. Chrebet made his first appearance at the Jet facility since he was hurt Nov. 6 against San Diego. His impromptu comments confirmed the expected.

“I’m not going to get back on the field. I think everybody’s aware of that,” Chrebet said. “But I’m just thankful and want to let the right people know I appreciate everything they’ve done for me.”

Buffalo Bill tight end Ryan Neufeld was put on season-ending injured reserve because of a knee injury.

Neufeld, a former UCLA standout, was hurt in Buffalo’s loss to Denver on Saturday night.

Neufeld was signed as a free agent in 2003 and has spent the majority of the season on special teams, making eight tackles. He finished the year with one catch for nine yards.

Offensive tackle Matt Light, who broke his right ankle in the third game, will sit out the rest of the season for the New England Patriots after being put on injured reserve.

Coach Bill Belichick had said Wednesday that Light’s return this season was “probably a long shot,” the most information he’d given out about Light since the player was hurt.

Rookie Nick Kaczur, a third-round draft choice from Toledo, started the next nine games at left tackle after Light was hurt. But he sat out the last two because of a shoulder injury and Tom Ashworth took Kaczur’s place.
