From Times Wire Reports

A Chinese journalist who worked for the New York Times will be tried on charges of exposing state secrets, his lawyer said. Zhao Yan was a researcher for the paper before his arrest in September last year.

Lawyer Mo Shaoping said the bill of indictment would probably be received by the court next week. Trial would start within about six weeks, Mo said.

Zhao, 43, faces a possible sentence of 10 years or longer after officials charged him with disclosing details about a rivalry between China’s Communist Party leader at the time, Jiang Zemin, and his successor, Hu Jintao.
