2 Charged in Death of Texas Restaurant Owner
Two men were charged Wednesday with capital murder in the death of a restaurateur they were accused of kidnapping for ransom, police said.
The body of Oscar Sanchez, 30, was discovered a week ago in a remote area nine days after he was snatched from his car on a Dallas street.
Jose Alberto Felix, 28, was being held in a Dallas jail on $1-million bond. His alleged accomplice, Edgar Acevedo, 24, was still at large.
Relatives said Sanchez’s kidnappers had allegedly demanded as much as $3 million in ransom.
The kidnappers didn’t show up to collect $78,000 the family said it raised.
Police believe Acevedo, who used to work at one of the Sanchez family’s three Mexican restaurants, escaped to Mexico a day before Felix’s arrest at a Chicago airport.
Felix’s lawyer has said his client did not help kill Sanchez and that he was forced to participate in the extortion attempt.
