‘Gunner Palace’ gets PG-13 rating

The producers of a documentary about American soldiers in Iraq reported Friday that they had won an appeal of the film’s rating from the Motion Picture Assn. of America.
“Gunner Palace” will be released next Friday with a PG-13 rating, Palm Pictures said, meaning teenagers will be able to see it without the necessity of being accompanied by a parent or guardian, as the earlier R rating would have required.
The MPAA initially had assigned the R rating because of the soldiers’ “adult” language, but Palm Pictures and producers Michael Tucker and Petra Epperlein appealed, arguing that the film should be available to teens who might be considering careers in the military so that they have “an opportunity to gain a true sense of combat and the issues facing soldiers in a war zone.”
