Brush Fire Blackens 40 Acres Near Homes

Los Angeles County firefighters battled a brush fire Tuesday that spread to nearly 40 acres and threatened several homes, officials said.
The fire was reported about 3 p.m. near Los Felis Drive and El Vecino Place, officials said. More than 200 firefighters responded to the blaze, which quickly spread to 15 acres and was fanned by wind gusts up to 15 mph.
Four homes were briefly threatened when the fire burned to their backyards, but firefighters were able to contain the flames before damage occurred.
