Group Gets $1.6 Million for Migrant Housing
From Times Staff and Wire Reports
The state awarded a Coachella Valley organization $1.6 million this week to build dwellings for seasonal and migrant farm workers in the desert community outside Indio.
The grant from the Department of Housing and Community Development will help the nonprofit Coachella Valley Housing Coalition construct Las Mananitas III, a town house-like rental complex of three stucco and tile buildings with a total of 88 beds. The units will feature a medical clinic on the 3.8-acre site.
