Online ‘Tall Tales’ ring true

I am over 50 and doing the online dating thing. Here’s what I’ve learned about men’s height: If they are 6 feet tall or taller, they tell the truth about their height. However, if they are 5-foot-1 or less, you can automatically subtract 2 inches from how tall they say they are (“Some Men Just Can’t Help the Tall Tales,” June 9).

The other thing that men seem to lie about is their age -- anywhere from shaving off a few years to lopping off a whole decade or more.

For the record:

Height and dating -- A letter in Thursday’s Calendar Weekend section about whether men who participate in online dating tell the truth about their height said that if they are 5-foot-1 or less, you could automatically subtract 2 inches from how tall they say they are. It should have said that the subtraction is applicable if they are 5-foot-11 or less.

I agree with Deanne Brandon. If they start off with a lie, what else will they lie about? Trust is gone from the get-go.
