Singer an acquired taste
Perhaps Lynell George would have found a larger audience at the Jazz Bakery if she had gone to see an artist with more widespread appeal than Andy Bey [“Off the Radar but Still Flying,” June 9]. Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band fills the place to the rafters. I guess I’m not the only jazz aficionado in Los Angeles who finds Andy Bey’s overdone vibrato to be, at best, unappealing and, at worst, annoying.
