Chicago White Sox right-hander Jon Garland became the American League’s first five-game winner Sunday by throwing his second consecutive four-hit shutout, an 8-0 victory over Detroit. Garland, a former Granada Hills Kennedy High standout, has won seven consecutive starts dating to September. Garland has had one winning record in his previous five seasons, all with the White Sox.
