She Hasn’t Shrunk, but Garment Sizes Have
It will make a size-able difference in my shopping (which I used to love) if the manufacturers ever establish some standard sizing (“What’s With Women’s Clothing Sizes? Industry Balks at Uniform Standards,” May 1).
In my closet hangs a size 12 dress from the ‘50s that fits like a glove, and beside it hangs a recently purchased size 2 blouse. Neighboring hangers hold a few 8s, 6s and many 4s.
I haven’t shrunk -- the numbers have, and if the past is a prelude to the future, the clothes I buy will soon be labeled in minus sizes.
