Phillips de Pury & Co. concluded the weeklong series of Contemporary art sales in New York with a total sale of $23.7 million, just under the high estimate. Twelve auction records were set, including new marks for Chris Ofili, Jorge Pardo and Martin Kippenberger.

Top lots Thursday night included $1.58 million for a large 1983 triptych by Jean-Michel Basquiat and $1.08 million for “Cracking the Whip,” a long, narrow 2000 painting of a stripper by Marlene Dumas that’s part of a series inspired by Amsterdam’s red-light district. (The prices include commission.)
