Two people were killed and a third was wounded in a shooting Monday outside a home in an upscale neighborhood of Thousand Oaks, authorities said.

One of the dead was a woman who died at the scene, said Eric Nishimoto, a spokesman with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department. The condition of the person who was wounded was not known.

Witnesses told KCAL-TV Channel 9 that they saw a man wearing a cowboy hat drive up to the home where the shooting occurred. After hearing gunshots, they saw the man get into a white Dodge Ram truck and drive away.

“I was just kind of staring at him because he drove by and then turns back and then drives by again so I’m just sitting there staring and the guy looks at me and he like waves and says hi to us,” witness Jade Martineau said.

Martineau said she and her friend went inside and heard gunshots.

“We heard bang, bang, bang, bang,” said Martineau, who added she and her friend ran out, saw the man jump into his truck and take off.

Martineau told KCAL that she and her friend walked across the street “and there was all those bodies laying there.”

The man abandoned the truck at a Vons supermarket parking lot down the street, then carjacked a vehicle, authorities said. KCAL reported the stolen vehicle was a 1999 white Ford F-150. The man remained at large Monday night.
