Purchase of U.S. Jets on Hold in Wake of Quake
From Times Wire Reports
Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf suspended a major purchase of U.S. fighter planes, saying as he toured a quake-shattered city that the money was needed first for recovery.
Musharraf said he was delaying the purchase of 77 F-16 fighter jets.
Analysts have estimated the planes’ cost at $5 billion to $10 billion. Pakistan has said it needs $5 billion to recover from the Oct. 8 magnitude 7.6 quake.
