Jean Carson, 82; Acted on Broadway, in Movies and Television Shows

Jean Carson, 82, an actress who appeared in several Broadway productions in the late 1940s and 1950s, and later in many television shows and movies, died Nov. 2 in a convalescent home in Palm Desert. She moved there after having a stroke, her family reported.

Carson played “fun girl” Daphne on “The Andy Griffith Show” in three episodes in which she flirted with Sheriff Andy Taylor. She also appeared on “The Red Buttons Show,” “Ellery Queen,” “The G.E. Theater,” “Wagon Train,” “The Untouchables” and “The Twilight Zone.”

Born in Charleston, W.Va., Carson began her acting career on Broadway in 1948, appearing in George S. Kaufman’s “Bravo!,” which ran for 44 performances. She also appeared in “Bird Cage” and “Metropole,” but neither was a hit.

Her film credits include “I Married a Monster from Outer Space” and “Fun with Dick and Jane.”

Dick Hutcherson, 73; Former NASCAR Driver Won 14 Races

Dick Hutcherson, 73, a former NASCAR driver who won 14 races in 103 starts in the 1960s, died Sunday after he had a heart attack while traveling from Florida to North Carolina. He died at Providence Hospital in Columbia, S.C.

A native of Keokuk, Iowa, Hutcherson joined NASCAR in 1964 after racing late models in the Midwest for almost a decade. He finished second in his second career start, then joined the Charlotte-based Holman-Moody team, for which he ran 52 races in 1965.

Later, he served as crew chief for David Pearson in championship seasons in 1968 and 1969, then returned to Holman-Moody as general manager.

In 1971, he and Eddie Pagan formed Hutcherson-Pagan, building race cars used by drivers such as Darrell Waltrip and A.J. Foyt.

Hutcherson-Pagan still supplies parts to race teams with a truck that serves as a rolling warehouse at tracks.

Alekos Alexandrakis, 76, popular Greek stage and film actor

Alekos Alexandrakis, 76, a popular Greek stage and film actor, died Tuesday of cancer in Athens’ Sotiria Hospital. Alexandrakis studied at the Drama School of the National Theater and starred in more than 60 movies, including Michael Cacoyannis’ “Stella” (1955) with Melina Mercouri.
