Hundreds of Protesters Held in Crackdown

Police arrested 200 protesters at a rally of thousands demanding that democracy be restored. King Gyanendra assumed absolute power early this year.
Separately, police arrested 87 journalists gathering to protest recent media restrictions.
The arrests were part of an often-violent crackdown on demonstrations in the capital, Katmandu.
Bishnu Nisthuri, president of the Federation of Nepalese Journalists, was among those arrested at Ratna Park, one of several areas where the king has banned rallies, he said.
