None Reported Hurt as Volcano Spews Ash
From Times Wire Reports
The Volcano of Fire in western Mexico blasted ash and gas 3 miles high, with an explosion that was heard 10 miles from the crater, officials said. No injuries were reported.
Ash fell on towns to the northwest, the Jalisco state civil defense agency said, and emergency workers were distributing hospital-type masks.
The 12,533-foot volcano on the border of Jalisco and Colima states -- more than 400 miles west of Mexico City -- is among the country’s most active.
