Case of New York Times Researcher Is Reopened
From Times Wire Reports
Prosecutors have launched a new investigation of a Chinese researcher for the New York Times after a court dropped charges against him last month.
The investigation could lead to new charges against Zhao Yan, who remains in jail, his lawyer said.
Zhao was detained in 2004. His family was told he was accused of leaking state secrets. The government has not released details of the case, but it is believed to stem from a report about former Chinese President Jiang Zemin’s plans to step down from a key military post.
