Johnny Duncan, 67, a country music singer who had a string of hits in the 1970s, including “She Can Put Her Shoes Under My Bed Anytime” and “It Couldn’t Have Been Any Better,” died Monday of a heart attack at a Fort Worth hospital.
A native of Dublin, Texas, Duncan grew up in a family of musicians. His mother, Minnie, taught him to play guitar and he performed at various times with his cousins Jimmy Seals of Seals & Crofts and country singer Dan Seals.
After moving to Nashville in the 1960s, Duncan began writing songs that were recorded by country singers Charley Pride and Conway Twitty.
He started recording on his own and had several hits with Janie Fricke, most notably “Stranger,” written by Kris Kristofferson, “Thinkin’ of a Rendezvous” and “Come a Little Bit Closer.”
