Unions back networks’ suit over indecency rules

Three entertainment industry unions are backing the major broadcast networks in their legal challenge to the federal government’s indecency standards.

The Directors Guild of America, the Screen Actors Guild, and the West Coast and East Coast chapters of the Writers Guild of America joined other arts and free-speech groups in filing a brief with the U.S. 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals in New York.

The brief supports the networks’ lawsuit against the Federal Communications Commission. The lawsuit argues that stricter guidelines the FCC put in place since 2004 are arbitrary and unconstitutional.
