SuperSonics Can’t Handle the Heat

Dwyane Wade recorded his second triple-double in two weeks with 15 points, 10 rebounds and a career-high 14 assists, and the Miami Heat beat the Seattle SuperSonics, 117-104, Friday night at Seattle.

After losing the first two games of their season-high seven-game trip, the Heat has won the last three, on Friday using an impressive offensive performance against the league’s worst defense.

Shaquille O’Neal finished with 16 points, including four dunks, and made six of seven free throws. James Posey tied a season high with 19 points, and Jason Williams also had 19. Alonzo Mourning had 12 points and blocked five shots.

New York 105, Atlanta 94 -- Larry Brown became the fourth coach in league history to win 1,000 games as the Knicks beat the Hawks at Madison Square Garden for their sixth consecutive victory. Brown, who is 1,000-762 in 23 seasons as an NBA coach, joined Lenny Wilkens, Don Nelson and Pat Riley. The Knicks have won six in a row for the first time since a seven-game winning streak from Dec. 22, 2000 to Jan. 7, 2001.

Philadelphia 125, Boston 124 -- Chris Webber had 31 points and 13 rebounds, and Allen Iverson scored 33 points to help the 76ers win in triple overtime at Philadelphia. With the 76ers ahead, 125-124, and only seconds left in the third overtime, Mark Blount grabbed a rebound and looked for an open man, only to have Webber strip the ball.

Milwaukee 103, Charlotte 102 -- T.J. Ford’s driving layup with 15 seconds left lifted the Bucks over the Bobcats at Charlotte, N.C. The Bucks blew an 18-point, second-quarter lead against the Bobcats, who were without six players due to injury, including three starters. But Milwaukee closed the game with a 9-2 run.

Washington 94, Indiana 85 -- Baskets by Gilbert Arenas and Antonio Daniels and two free throws by Arenas gave the Wizards an 86-80 lead at Indianapolis. Arenas, who scored 37 points, made a shot clock-beating jumper with 1:20 left to make it 88-80 and put the game out of reach.

Minnesota 103, Denver 89 -- Kevin Garnett scored a season-high 31 points on 14-for-17 shooting and had 15 rebounds at Minneapolis to help the Timberwolves even their record at 17-17. Wally Szczerbiak, who scored 28 points, led Minnesota on a 20-4 run to close the third quarter.

New Orleans 90, Sacramento 76 -- Rasual Butler made two three-point baskets during a 16-4 run that extended the Hornets’ lead to 79-57 early in the fourth quarter at Norman, Okla. The game -- relocated from Baton Rouge, La. -- was played at the University of Oklahoma’s Lloyd Noble Center because of a Bon Jovi concert rehearsal at the Ford Center in Oklahoma City.

Memphis 81, New Jersey 69 -- The Grizzlies, who won for the ninth time in 11 games, extended their home winning streak to six games. Memphis took command with 21 unanswered points spanning the second and third quarters. The Grizzlies led, 65-46, after three quarters.

Portland 113, Orlando 108 -- The Magic cut the lead to two on Dwight Howard’s follow shot with 1:50 left at Portland, but Juan Dixon made two baskets, including a three-pointer, to clinch the victory.

Orlando guard Keyon Dooling was suspended by the NBA for five games without pay and Seattle guard Ray Allen was suspended for three games for fighting during Wednesday’s game.

Dooling and Allen were ejected during the second quarter of the SuperSonics’ 113-104 win after Dooling pushed Allen to the floor. Allen got up and tackled Dooling into the first row of seats and onto some fans.
