Selanne’s Feeling Better

Feeling confident about his recovery from an injured groin, Mighty Duck forward Teemu Selanne said he intends to play in tonight’s game against the Ottawa Senators as long as it feels strong in the morning skate.

“I was a little surprised,” Selanne said after practice Wednesday. “Let’s see how it reacts. I think I felt good. I moved pretty good.”

Selanne, the team leader in goals (19) and points (37), has sat out the last two games. He last skated Sunday, when he left practice early, but said two full days of rest have helped.

When asked how he feels now compared with when he pulled himself out of the lineup Friday against Washington, he said, “It’s like night and day.”

Rookie center Zenon Konopka, recalled from the minors Sunday, could be out of the lineup for several days because of a high ankle sprain that occurred in Monday’s overtime loss at Boston.

Konopka hurt his right ankle while crashing into the boards chasing Marco Sturm on the Bruin forward’s second goal of the game early in the third period. Duck Coach Randy Carlyle said the preliminary diagnosis is that Konopka will be out three or four days.

Left wing Chris Kunitz sat out practice because of an elbow injury he suffered against the Bruins. Kunitz received three stitches in his right elbow after getting knocked to the ice in the second period; he scored a goal early in the third.
