Sheriff’s Deputies Seek Escaped Mental Patient
From Times Staff Reports
Sheriff’s deputies are searching for an escapee from Metropolitan State Hospital, a 28-year-old mental patient committed after allegedly vandalizing a place of worship.
Pettrie Harris was recovering from surgery when he escaped Wednesday from the psychiatric hospital’s skilled nursing unit. He is normally housed in a secure area fenced off by razor wire.
This year, six patients have escaped from the hospital and two others did not return from home visits. Harris was the only one to be referred to the hospital by the criminal courts.
