Landmark ‘Swan Lake’ revisits the Southland

“Brokeback Mountain” with feathers -- that’s the unorthodox Matthew Bourne version of “Swan Lake” returning to the Ahmanson Theatre in its 10th anniversary production. Back in 1997, a Times reviewer called it “a uniquely audacious and unforgettable reinterpretation.” Danced to Tchaikovsky’s classic score (played live), the work features male swans, a prince who may remind you of some of the more dysfunctional members of the Windsor family and several complex women’s roles that make you wonder about the people who’ll try to tell you that this is an all-male staging. Alan Vincent and Jose Tirado alternate as the Swan during the run, with Neil Penlington and Simon Wakefield cast as the Prince.
