10,000 Evacuated From Town After Gas Leak

A leak at a newly constructed gas well in southwest China forced the evacuation of 10,000 people from a town where just over two years ago, a toxic gas cloud left 243 people dead, state media and an official said.
No one was injured in Saturday’s gas leak in Kaixian County, near the city of Chongqing, said a county official who would give only his surname, Xia.
Xia said workers had ignited the escaping gas to avoid a buildup and explosion.
