Hats off to Lockyer
Re “State Sues to Block Toll Road in Park,” March 24
State Atty. Gen. Bill Lockyer, in his decision to sue the Foothill/Eastern Transportation Corridor Agency in Orange County to stop the slicing and dicing of beautiful San Onofre State Beach with a toll road, deserves thanks from all state residents who treasure the outdoors. If they could, the endangered birds, amphibians and fish that frequent the park’s rich habitat would also thank him. In this state, parks are a favorite target of road builders who haven’t observed that more paving creates more traffic congestion. They would rather steal parkland from the public than pay for land elsewhere.
