In praise of Garamendi

Re “The insurance showdown,” Opinion, May 10

I’ve been saying for years that we no longer have government of the people, by the people and for the people; what we do have is government by campaign contribution. Thank you, Insurance Commissioner John Garamendi, for refusing to be blackmailed by the threat of an ad campaign against your insurance reform regulations.

Diogenes can finally lower his lamp: We have found an honest man! Garamendi has repeatedly shown himself to be independent, free from corruption and an honest public servant. If this man is not elected to any post he seeks, we deserve the government we get.
