Revolution Leaves Chivas USA All Wet in 3-1 Win

Shalrie Joseph and Taylor Twellman scored second-half goals to help the New England Revolution beat Chivas USA, 3-1, on Saturday night in a game played at times in a driving rain at Foxborough, Mass.

Joseph scored on a header after a cross from Jay Heaps in the 53rd minute, and Twellman beat Chivas defender Carlos Llamosa to make it 3-1 in the 86th minute.

“They made a couple of plays,” Chivas Coach Bob Bradley said. “

Chivas (1-3-1) broke a 134-minute goal drought in the 19th minute when Francisco Mendoza converted a cross from Ante Razov.

But four minutes later, the Revolution (3-2-1) scored the tying goal when Andy Dorman converted a long through ball from Jose Cancela.

“We’ve got to get more confidence, more guts when games are on the line,” Bradley said. “Guys need to step up and make some plays.

“I thought generally we played well, but playing well and winning is not the same.”

New England goalie Matt Reis made five saves and foiled three corner kicks.

Columbus 1, Colorado 0 -- Ned Grabovoy scored in his first game with the Crew (3-3-1) in a victory over the Rapids (2-3-1) at Columbus, Ohio.

Grabovoy and midfielder Joseph Ngwenya arrived in Columbus early Saturday after a late-night flight from Los Angeles after they were acquired from the Galaxy in exchange for Kyle Martino and John Wolyniec.

D.C. United 2, Kansas City 1 -- Jaime Moreno converted a first-half penalty kick to help United (4-1-2) to a victory over the Wizards (4-2-1) at Washington.

United’s Alecko Eskandarian also scored on a sensational one-time volley in the 12th minute. Kansas City’s Sasha Victorine scored on a penalty kick in the 16th minute.

New York 1, Chicago 1 -- Diego Gutierrez scored on a penalty kick in the 68th minute, and the visiting Fire (1-1-4) tied the winless Red Bulls (0-1-5) at East Rutherford, N.J.

Jean Philippe Peguero scored his first goal of the season for New York in the 27th minute for a 1-0 lead.

Houston 1, FC Dallas 1 -- Clarence Goodson’s own goal in the 81st minute allowed the visiting Dynamo (4-2-1) to tie Dallas (4-1-3) at Frisco, Texas.

Carlos Ruiz scored an unassisted goal in the 19th minute to give FC Dallas a 1-0 lead.
