Driver Held as Pickup Flips, Killing Passenger
A 22-year-old Los Angeles man was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving after his pickup truck overturned on the Harbor Freeway, killing his 26-year-old passenger. Authorities did not release either man’s name.
The accident occurred about 11:40 p.m. Saturday when the driver apparently lost control of his Ford pickup while heading north near 52nd Street, sideswiped another vehicle going in the same direction and smashed through the guardrail into the southbound lanes, where he was struck by an oncoming car.
His passenger, a North Hollywood resident, was declared dead at the scene. The driver was taken to Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena with major chest, lung and head injuries, said California Highway Patrol Officer Patrick Kimball. He said the driver of the oncoming car was taken to the same hospital with moderate injuries.
