Tenor takes vocal contest
Tenor Yonghoon Lee from New York won the $10,000 first prize at the 34th annual Loren L. Zachary Society National Vocal Competition finals Sunday at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre in L.A.
Baritone Sebastian Catana, also from New York, took the $9,000 second prize. Philadelphia baritone Jose Adan Perez won the $8,000 third prize.
A total of $52,450 was awarded, including a $7,000 fourth prize to Philadelphia soprano Evelyn Pollock and a $5,450 fifth prize to Los Angeles soprano Jessica Swink.
Eleven finalists participated in the finals with the Los Angeles Performing Arts Orchestra conducted by Frank Fetta.
