Pair of wild cards
IF you dig Gaudi or gaudy, you’ll find it at Retropia. “Our shop is not for the timid,” says Los Angeles DJ Senor Amor, who recently opened Retropia with paramour Jonona Lambert. “We like Regency, Asiana and things that make us smile -- and we’re not afraid of gold and chrome.” When he’s not spinning for KXLU-FM (88.9) Tuesday nights, Amor teams with Lambert to sell vintage furnishings of a decidedly offbeat nature. (The colorful pair are shown here on a psychedelic sleeper sofa, $1,100.) With business partner A. Lori Tucci, they offer pieces without designer pedigrees -- or designer price tags. Their space is filled with exuberantly upholstered seating, vintage telephones, 1960s and ‘70s lamps and barware, wicker giraffes and artwork -- most recently, San Francisco-based Jason Mecier’s kitschy mosaic portraits of excessive pop icons such as Phyllis Diller and Donald Trump -- all made from food. 1443 N. Highland Ave., Hollywood; (323) 871-4000; www.retropia.net.
