Ex-Officer Held in Abduction, Sexual Assault
A former Manhattan Beach police officer was arrested on suspicion of abducting and sexually assaulting a teenage boy in Las Vegas, authorities said Sunday.
Shawn Shelton, 39, of Moorpark was arrested by Corona police at the request of Las Vegas authorities, said Corona Police Lt. Tom Weeks.
Shelton, who is being held without bail in the Corona jail, allegedly lured a 14-year-old boy into his vehicle and then assaulted him in a parking lot, police said.
The youth was handcuffed during the alleged assault, which lasted two hours May 21, police said.
Shelton allegedly used an old police badge to order the boy into his Hummer, police said.
After Las Vegas police reported that Shelton was driving the SUV, a Corona patrol unit spotted it and arrested Shelton Friday night.
Shelton was hired by the Manhattan Beach Police Department in 1994, and become a sergeant five years later.
Weeks said he was not aware of the circumstances of Shelton’s departure from the Manhattan Beach force.
