From Times Staff and Wire Reports

A man in an inner tube being pulled by a boat died Monday when he crashed head-on into another boat on Pyramid Lake, authorities said.

Edward Gomez, 43, was being towed by a long rope when the boat pilot, John Galvan, 46, of Los Angeles, made a wide turn to avoid a stationary boat, sheriff’s officials said. The inner tube slammed into the motionless boat, killing Gomez, who was pronounced dead at Henry Mayo Hospital in Santa Clarita.

Galvan appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter, officials said. He was being held on $100,000 bail.
