Re “Israeli raid fails to slow rocket strikes,” Nov. 3
The admission by Binyamin Ben-Eliezer, Israel’s minister of national infrastructure, that “there is nothing we haven’t tried in Gaza [to stop the launching of Kassam rockets], and ... the situation there is worsening” exposes the failure of the military option. Now is the time to think anew and recognize that the new Middle East includes Hamas, and for the United States to encourage and facilitate negotiations that finally will resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
