Crawford goes into move-on mode
Sifting through the rubble the day after a 4-3 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers found Kings Coach Marc Crawford searching for bright spots.
Sure, the Kings blew a 3-1 lead Thursday, giving up three goals in three minutes, a collapse that blunted Crawford’s recent talk of Kings progress. But what’s a coach of a 6-11-4 team to do?
“The great thing about our sport is we have a chance to redeem ourselves with a great performance against Phoenix” today, Crawford said.
The Kings’ step back Thursday was a group effort. They handed over pucks like free samples at a grocery store, and their goaltender wasn’t able to cover for the mistakes.
As for goaltender Dan Cloutier, who has a 3.46 goals-against average, Crawford said, “I don’t think Dan has played his best, not even close. But I think he is much like our team. Maybe he’s pressing a little bit. When a goaltender presses, he loses his patience.”

Kings fans get a chance to welcome the Coyotes’ Jeremy Roenick back to Staples Center today.
Last season, Roenick became the poster boy for the Kings’ collapse. He was acquired in a trade, showed up to training camp out of shape and finished with nine goals.
In a TV interview last month, Roenick said that he intentionally showed up out of shape to spite the NHL for the lockout. Tim Leiweke, the Kings’ governor, declined to speculate whether Roenick should return some of the $4.94 million the Kings paid him to show up in shape.
“The Roenick experiment was bad for him and worse for us,” Leiweke said. “The risk we took, and the money we paid, he did not take on the responsibilities we needed him to take on. It was a major disappointment. We’ve learned our lesson and moved on.”
