That’s a Big 10-04-06
Wednesday is Ten-Four Day, a time to salute citizens band radio operators. Some of their classic expressions--”There’s a bear in the bushes”--are bound to make today’s Web-savvy generation LOL. CBs are “definitely a ‘70s thing,” says Lacey Foster, whose family owns the Solder Joint, a communications systems supplier in Orange, which nevertheless still sells them to truckers, Jeep enthusiasts and others prone to driving out of cellphone range. Marking the day is easy: Watch “Smokey and the Bandit,” starring Burt Reynolds, Sally Field and Jackie Gleason; a new DVD version includes a CB radio tutorial. Then sing along with Jackson Browne, at right, on “Shaky Town” (which, good buddy, is CB-speak for L.A.):
“That’s a big ten-four From your back door Just put that hammer down.”
