Woman Found Dead in Harbor Was Stabbed
The woman found bobbing lifeless in Newport Harbor was identified Thursday as a middle-aged Huntington Beach resident believed to have been stabbed to death in her condominium.
Police withheld her name pending notification of relatives.
“We have no suspects at this time,” said Capt. Dan Johnson of the Huntington Beach Police Department, whose investigators spent much of Thursday night searching for clues in her condo on Warner Avenue.
Her body was spotted wrapped in a blanket and floating off a dock shortly after 4 p.m. Wednesday by a worker at the Newport Harbor Yacht Club, one of Orange County’s most exclusive social clubs.
Employees at the Balboa Peninsula club dialed 911 to summon Orange County Harbor Patrol officers.
Investigators found bloody bedding in the yacht club’s trash bin, which is accessible by a public alley, said Sgt. Bill Hartford, a spokesman for Newport Beach police.
“The club is cooperating with authorities and the investigation,” a statement on the club’s website read. “The membership would like to extend its condolences to the family of the victim.”
