Ex-president establishes new party

Former mujahedin leaders, communists and a member of Afghanistan’s royal family have formed a political group that aims to curtail President Hamid Karzai’s power.
The National Front is led by former President Burhanuddin Rabbani and includes members of Karzai’s administration.
The group advocates increased power for parliament and direct elections for 34 provincial governors now appointed by Karzai, Rabbani said.
