Mayor signs plan to raise renters’ relocation fees
Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa signed an ordinance Monday that will double or triple the relocation fees building owners must pay tenants evicted because of condominium conversions.
The fees apply to anyone who received an eviction notice on April 11 or after. The new fees are $6,810 for those who have lived in their apartment less than three years and $9,040 for those who have lived there longer. Renters who are 62 or older, disabled or have dependent children receive $14,850 if they have lived in their units three years or less and $17,080 if longer.
