Perceptive view of the loft lifestyle
I think [“The Loft Re-Imagined,” April 19] did a good job capturing the many ironies and contradictions of living in L.A., and in a downtown loft especially.
I live in an apartment complex in Hollywood where nobody knows their neighbors. I went to a party at a loft downtown once, it was very weird. They had about three dogs, a potbellied pig, a scorpion and other assorted pets.
I wouldn’t mind the freedom, without so much wildlife though.

I was directly involved in the development of 600 units on three blocks in Little Tokyo between 2002 and today. The idea of bringing people from the suburbs to downtown L.A. is dear to me.
There is plenty of self-promoting literature on the downtown L.A. housing boom.
Your article tells the real story. It is one of the most perceptive and accurate pieces that I have seen.
