Teen girl accused of murder in fatal crash
A 16-year-old girl accused of killing another driver in a failed suicide attempt after being spurned by a classmate was charged Wednesday with murder.
Louise Egan Brunstad was indicted by a Fulton County grand jury in the Oct. 30 death of Nancy Salado-Mayo, 30.
A statement from Dist. Atty. Paul Howard said Brunstad crossed the center line and intentionally struck Salado-Mayo’s car with the intention of killing herself.
Brunstad had text messaged her intent to kill herself to a female classmate who had refused to have sex with her, Howard said.
“She was actually counting down her imminent threat: ‘Nine, eight, seven, six ... I’m going to do it,” he said.
Brunstad’s attorney, Drew Findling, issued a statement on the case.
“For this 16-year-old 10th-grader involved in a car accident with no allegations of alcohol or drug use to not only be prosecuted as an adult but also be charged with murder only furthers the tragedy for all involved,” Findling’s statement said.
Brunstad also is charged with aggravated assault with a motor vehicle, serious injury by vehicle, reckless driving, driving on the wrong side of the road and speeding.
Salado-Mayo’s daughter, 6, was injured in the crash.
