* at Cleveland 8, Texas 7 (11 innings): Jhonny Peralta singled home Victor Martinez from third base in the 11th inning to send the Indians past the Rangers, who struck out a team-record 19 times. Fernando Cabrera (1-0), the last of seven Cleveland pitchers, struck out five over two innings. The teams combined for 32 strikeouts. The Rangers’ Hank Blalock and Brad Wilkerson struck out four times apiece.

* Detroit 6, at Chicago 2: Chad Durbin (1-1) struck out a career-high nine batters in eight innings and Magglio Ordonez had three hits and three runs batted in against his former team. Joel Zumaya couldn’t complete the shutout, walking four and allowing two runs in 2/3 of an inning.

* Boston 6, at Baltimore 1: Curt Schilling (3-1) pitched seven innings of five-hit ball and David Ortiz drove in the tiebreaking run with a bloop single in the seventh to help the Red Sox avoid their first three-game losing streak of the season.

* Kansas City 4, at Minnesota 3: David DeJesus and Mike Sweeney homered to help send the Twins to their first four-game losing streak since last June. Odalis Perez (2-2) beat the Twins for the second time in six days.

* Seattle 2, Oakland 0: The Mariners improved to 3-1 this season against the A’s.

* Toronto at New York, ppd. rain: No makeup date has been announced.

* at Angels 9, Tampa Bay 1: The Angels broke the game open with a six-run seventh inning.
