After Market charges to victory in Inglewood

Produced by Tranquility Lake, a mare who had a lot of graded stakes success in California, After Market picked up his first win locally Saturday with an impressive victory in the $108,200 Inglewood Handicap at Hollywood Park.

A 4-year-old son of Storm Cat owned by breeders Pam and Marty Wygod, who also bred and raced Tranquility Lake, After Market rallied wide to collar pacesetter and defending champion Willow O Wisp and went on to win by two lengths. Ridden by Alex Solis, the 7-2 third choice ran the 1 1/16 miles on turf in 1:39.63 in the Grade III stakes race.

After Market, a winner of four of his first six starts racing on the East Coast for trainer Bill Mott, earned his third graded stakes victory.

Red Fort was up to gain the place over 2-1 favorite Willow O Wisp.

After three consecutive carry-overs in the pick six at Hollywood Park, there were 71 tickets with all six winners and each was worth $46,492.80.

Jockey Aaron Gryder will be sidelined for three to four weeks because of a shoulder injury.

Gryder, who earned his 3,000th career victory earlier in the year, was involved in a spill near the conclusion of the Santa Anita winter-spring season, then apparently aggravated the injury riding the first couple of days at Hollywood Park.

Trainer Wayne Lukas won’t have a starter Saturday in the Kentucky Derby, but he may have two runners in the May 19 Preakness at Pimlico.

Flying First Class, who finished far behind probable Derby favorite Curlin in two graded stakes in Arkansas, rebounded with a 3 3/4 -length victory in the $117,800 Derby Trial at Churchill Downs.

A California-bred son of Perfect Mandate, Flying First Class won for the second time in four starts, running the 7 1/2 furlongs in 1:29.28 under jockey Mark Guidry.

The impressive win means Lukas could run Flying First Class and Starbase, who was second behind Slew’s Tizzy in the Lexington on April 21 at Keeneland, in the Preakness.

“We’ll have to take a look at the Preakness or the race on the undercard,” Lukas said, referring to the Barbaro Stakes. “We’ve got some options. Maybe we’ll let those guys beat each other up next Saturday.”

Divine Park, the 5-2 second choice, remained unbeaten in three starts with a victory in the $150,000 Withers at Aqueduct.

Alan Garcia rode the 3-year-old Chester House colt for owner James Barry and trainer Kiaran McLaughlin to a 3 1/4 -length victory in the Grade III race in 1:34.65 for the mile.

One race earlier, Masseuse wore down Stormy Kiss to take the $100,000 Beaugay Handicap. Edgar Prado rode the 5-year-old Dynaformer mare.

Silent Pleasure outfinished favored Bob And John to win the $300,000 Texas Mile at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie.

Chinese Dragon won the $300,000 San Francisco Mile at Golden Gate Fields.
