College president opposed to Costco
The president of Golden West College has spoken out against construction of a Costco store on 14 acres of the community college’s campus.
In a statement released Thursday, President Wes Bryan said the store should not be built because it would increase traffic and adversely affect local residents. Bryan said he would recommend rejection of the plan to the Coast Community College District Board of Trustees, which will meet to discuss it Wednesday.
Costco has proposed building new student and faculty housing, as well as a new parking structure in exchange for leasing the project site at Gothard Street and McFadden Avenue.
