The Silent Movie Theatre rings in the holidays Sunday afternoon with the 1923 Harold Lloyd comedy masterpiece “Safety Last” -- featuring the scene (pictured) in which he hangs from the hands of giant clock overlooking downtown L.A. The film will be preceded by a shorts program (silentmovie theatre.com). . . . Though the American Cinematheque’s Egyptian Theatre is closed for the holidays, the Aero will celebrate with a slew of Christmas films. Tonight is MGM’s lovely 1938 adaptation of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” with Reginald Owen as Scrooge and husband-and-wife team of Gene and Kathleen Lockhart as Bob and Mrs. Cratchit. The film also marks the debut of their daughter, June Lockhart of “Lassie” fame. She’ll be on hand to discuss the film. Ernst Lubitsch’s 1940 romantic comedy delight “The Shop Around the Corner” rounds things out (american cinematheque.com ). See the Don’t Miss list for more. --
