Ling reappointed to CRA board
In a contentious hearing Wednesday, the City Council voted 10 to 4 to confirm affordable-housing developer Joan Ling to a new, four-year term on the Community Redevelopment Agency board.
Ling’s supporters described her as a conscientious “voice for the underprivileged of the city,” and critics contended she had overstepped her authority by trying to secure concessions from developers even when their projects received no public subsidies.
Two other CRA commissioners also won reappointment Wednesday, both on unanimous votes. They were John Perez, Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa’s cousin and political director for the United Food and Commercial Workers in Orange County; and Bruce Ackerman, president of the Economic Alliance of the San Fernando Valley.
