Deputy is slashed, shoots, kills man

An Orange County sheriff’s deputy shot and killed a man who slashed him with a knife early Sunday, authorities said.

Deputies responded at 4:10 a.m. to a report of a woman screaming inside an apartment complex at Pacific Park Drive and Enterprise in Aliso Viejo.

They said they found a man attacking a woman inside an apartment. When he was ordered to stop, the man lunged at one of the deputies and slashed him across the forearm, leaving a deep cut, said Sheriff’s Lt. Ted Boyne.

The deputy shot the man twice in the abdomen, Boyne said. He died later at a hospital. His name was not released.

The deputy, whose name was also not released, was treated at a hospital. The Orange County district attorney’s office is investigating.
