EU may challenge U.S. ban on online betting

U.S. restrictions on online gambling may amount to protectionism and the European Union may challenge it in the World Trade Organization, the bloc’s top financial regulator said.
“There is at least a prima facie case to suggest this is a protectionist measure,” EU Internal Market Commissioner Charlie McCreevy said.
Internet gambling in the U.S. was in effect banned in October when President Bush signed legislation outlawing financial transactions for gaming.
