Former Navy officer sentenced in wife’s death

A former Navy chief petty officer was sentenced to 26 years to life in prison Friday after being convicted of first-degree murder in the death of his wife.
Philip C. Rivers, 47, of Temecula was convicted in December of murdering his wife, Edna, two years ago. Her body was found on a hillside off Cajon Pass in San Bernardino. She had a plastic shopping bag tied over her head.
Jurors deadlocked on whether his father, Philip M. Rivers, 74, of Hemet concealed the crime.
