Happy Anthony helps Nuggets win

Carmelo Anthony celebrated his late addition to the Western Conference All-Star team by scoring 34 points, and the Denver Nuggets defeated the Indiana Pacers, 102-95, Friday night at Indianapolis to end a three-game losing streak.

Anthony, added to the squad by Commissioner David Stern as an injury replacement earlier in the day, made 11 of 24 shots and was 12 for 13 from the free-throw line. The Nuggets played without injured starters Allen Iverson and Marcus Camby.

Mike Dunleavy scored a season-high 23 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for the Pacers, who lost their third consecutive home game.

Indiana was called for five technical fouls in the second half and both Coach Rick Carlisle and point guard Darrell Armstrong were ejected.

Orlando 106, San Antonio 104 -- Dwight Howard leaped high to dunk a long inbounds lob from Hedo Turkoglu with 0.2 of a second left at Orlando, Fla. Howard had 30 points for the Magic, which rallied from an 18-point deficit to stop a three-game losing streak.

New Jersey 92, Boston 78 -- The Nets spoiled the return of Paul Pierce in Boston by extending the Celtics’ franchise-record losing streak to 17. Pierce struggled in his first game since Dec. 20, scoring nine points on four-for-16 shooting. He was out 24 games because of a stress reaction in his left foot and infected left elbow.

Portland 108, Charlotte 100 -- Zach Randolph scored 40 points and made one of two free throws with 2.1 seconds left at Charlotte, N.C., to send the Trail Blazers to their second straight overtime game and their fifth in nine games, then scored the first four points of the extra period.

Cleveland 103, Miami 79 -- LeBron James ended a mini-scoring slump with 29 points at Cleveland and the Cavaliers ended the Heat’s five-game winning streak. James had averaged only 17.7 points -- almost nine under his average -- in the past four games.

Memphis 105, Minnesota 97 -- Rudy Gay scored seven points in overtime at Memphis, Tenn., to help the Grizzlies end a four-game losing streak. Gay also had a block of Ricky Davis’ jumper with just over a minute left. The Grizzlies pulled away by outscoring the Timberwolves, 13-5, in overtime.

Dallas 95, Houston 74 -- Josh Howard, chosen as a Western Conference All-Star earlier in the day, had 22 points and seven rebounds to lead the Mavericks to their team-record 17th consecutive home victory. The franchise record of 16 in a row at home was set from Jan. 3 to March 3, 2006, then matched this season from Dec. 9 to Feb. 7.

Atlanta 120, Phoenix 111 -- Former Sun Joe Johnson scored 17 of his 32 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Hawks at Phoenix. He made two late three-point baskets, one during a decisive 8-0 run.

The Suns played without All-Star guard Steve Nash, who sat out because of a sore right shoulder. Atlanta ended a five-game losing streak to Phoenix and beat the Suns for the second time in 14 tries at US Airways Center.

Golden State 123, Chicago 121 -- Monta Ellis made a go-ahead jump shot with 43 seconds remaining in overtime, giving the Warriors their eighth consecutive victory over the Bulls at Oakland. Chicago hasn’t won in Oakland since its 1998 championship season.
