Arizona State’s Briann January made UCLA pay for leaving her open on the outside.

January had a career-high 22 points, nine assists and six steals to lead No. 10-ranked Arizona State over UCLA, 80-69, Sunday at Pauley Pavilion in the Bruins’ final home game of the season.

“UCLA was pretty saggy,” January said of the Bruins’ defense, “so we could catch them on that outside shot quite a bit.”

She made six of 12 shots.

The Sun Devils (25-3, 15-2 Pacific 10) remain half a game behind first-place Stanford in the conference standings.

Noelle Quinn had 20 points, six rebounds and five assists for the Bruins (13-15, 7-9). Lindsey Pluimer had 13 points and eight rebounds. UCLA out-rebounded Arizona State, 46-26, but committed 24 turnovers. UCLA has lost four of its last five.

“It’s been a tough season,” said UCLA Coach Kathy Olivier. “We’re just up and down, and we’ve been very inconsistent. We did a great job on the boards, yet you can’t turn the ball over 24 times and expect to win.”
